As bankers count their remaining pennies and dodge the rotten fruit from the audience, there’s one group of financiers who may well see their numbers sharply depleted - hedge fund managers.
Liquidity is still tight worldwide, despite numerous attempts by governments to jumpstart lending between banks, and thereby ensure individuals and businesses can get loans. This means that there’s less and less spare cash floating around and if anyone has got money to invest, they’re looking for safe havens such as gold.
Since losses in hedge funds reached over 23 per cent last year, according to Hedge Fund Research’s daily report, they certainly don’t count as a safe havens."
