Not removing Pietersen would have endorsed player power: ECB
"Speaking for the first time after the skipper-coach feud, the England and Wales Cricket Board
yesterday (January 14) indicated that Kevin Pietersen was removed from captaincy to negate the player-power which could have been damaging for the team management in the long term.
ECB Chairman Giles Clarke described the circumstances that led to dismissal of its two most important employees as “horrendously problematic” but admired the duo for handling the situation with dignity.
“The ECB was faced with an impossible situation and it raised issues that had very serious implications for the game,” Clarke was quoted as saying in the ‘Daily Telegraph’.
“It has been a very difficult time and when the issue arose it was obvious it was going to be horrendously problematic, but a lot of people have behaved with great dignity throughout, not least Kevin Pietersen and Peter Moores.”
The ECB sacked Moores after Pietersen gave the ultimatum that the two could not work together anymore with the West Indies tour just a fortnight away and in the process also lost his own job.
